Do I have to give employees coffee breaks?

The Employment Standards Act (British Columbia), does not require an employer to provide employees with coffee breaks.

The only requirement imposed by the Employment Standards Act is to provide a half hour lunch break, after an employee has worked for five hours. This half hour break is an unpaid one.

Some employers give employees a 15-minute coffee break in the morning and another 15-minute coffee break in the afternoon. This is entirely voluntary.

An employer who chooses to give employees a coffee break must be careful about withdrawing this perk.
